Butterfly Beach Snorkel Pics

Hey remember that thing called the sun that used to come out in the Summer?  It would shine down and make stuff warm?  Anybody remember that?  Summer was always good times—I mean, top four season for sure.  Instead we’re stuck with overcast days, offshore wins and cold water.  These guys know what I’m talking about.

Last Thursday Eric and I set out to find the snorkeling jewel of Santa Barbara: the sewer pipe outside of Butterfly Beach.  Everybody knows the sewer pipe here, it’s basically The Great Barrier reef of SB Snorkeling, only probably better, pretty much.  As you can see we couldn’t really see much of anything (including the sewer pipe, which is weird) which is basically par for the snorkeling course.  With the water temp hovering about five degrees below normal for this time of year it was tough to stay out for more than about 45 minutes before face-freeze sets in.  I think the majority of the pics turned out this time around but without anything radical to see I don’t really have much to share:Eric and I are going to make this a weekly thing so I’m going to hold off on future snorkel posts until I have something sick to report.

Despite the persistent May June July August Gloom and crap conditions we ventured up to Refugio on Saturday (do yourself a favor and park on the street, it’s a 2 minute walk and will save you $5) but none of my shots there came out due to (again, you guessed it) lack of visibility.  You might be wondering why I haven’t been surfing and the answer is the waves are all Ryan Theriot sized.  This is the summer of my discontent.
