Joe Torre on the localism at West Coast beaches: "Dude, that Pemberonian is such a hater."
Dude,
Did one of our own really suggest that Joe Torre is overrated?
Don’t make me change Sr. to Jr. in your blogger title there Pembertonian. Don’t you know you’re “living on borrowed time.”
As KellyS would say, “I’d like you to explain how blogging about whether Torre is overrated exudes the Aloha spirit.”
Dude, I know you saw Torre on that longboard in that car insurance commercial. You gotta respect that, don’t you?
And look at what the Yankees did last year without him – eight-games back in the NL East, where they finished third.
New York won the East every year Torre was there (dating to 1996) except in 1997 and 2007 when the Bronx Bombers finished a disappointing second.
So if second place is disappointing, what is third? Third is what you get when you don’t have Torre managing all those New York egos.
That’s what separates Torre from the rest. Sort of like Phil Jackson during his time with Chicago and during the Shaq-Kobe days in LA.
What’s next? You going to criticize him for allowing the Manny circus to come to town, and then change your tune and make Manny’s mug your Website’s background image eight months later? Oh wait, that was me.
Where was I going with this post?
Oh yeah, Torre surfed, once, which gives him West Coast cred: and brings me to another point. If we can get this New Yorker in a wetsuit and into the lineup, when is Ryantific finally going to suit up?
In fact, I think we need to put together a WCBias.com team-building surf sesh. Me, Pembertonian, BG and RK: and Manny and JT if they’re available. We’ll see y’all at Rincon soon enough.
Stoooooked.

First of all, I don’t think we can officially call Torre a longboarder until he actually pops up. So far all I’ve seen is something that barely passes for paddling.
Secondly, I’m pretty sure Torre’s record outside the Yanks is under .500. And I’m pretty sure that every other guy who’s ever managed the Yanks has made it to the World Series at least twice.
Torr’es a good guy. But right now Scoscia is better in the captain’s seat.
