Things to Think About When You're Thinking About Nothing

Have you noticed I haven’t posted much the last few weeks? Of course you have and you’re heartbroken about it. I feel bad when I don’t do any posts and usually I write them when I’m at work because really, what else am I going to do? Sadly I have installed Bejeweled part 2 on my computer and whenever I get some free time instead of thinking of something to write about the Dodgers I just fire up bejeweled and try to get more than 480,000 points, which is my current high score. If you think you can beat me then we can talk bejeweled, if not then you can just back the F up.

Today though, as I was doing my usual 60-80 pages of internet sports reading, I came across Buster Olney’s piece from over the weekend and didn’t like the looks of his hodgepodge line-up. Here’s what Olney wrote:

If the Dodgers sign Manny Ramirez — and that is the expectation throughout baseball — they will have a good, deep lineup that might eventually look something like this, depending on how quickly Matt Kemp develops:

  • SS Rafael Furcal
  • 2B Hudson
  • LF Ramirez
  • C Russ Martin
  • RF Andre Ethier
  • 1B James Loney
  • 3B Casey Blake
  • CF Kemp

Yes, I too think Orlando Hudson has been miscast as a #3 hitter for too long in Arizona and penciling him into either the 2 or 6 slot is fine by me but Matt Kemp buried down at the 8th spot? Really? Come on Busta Bust, I expect more from you here. A much more betterer lineup would look something like this:

1. Furcal (S)

2. Hudson (S)

3. Manny (R)

4. Ethier (L)

5. Kemp (R)

6. Beefcake (L)

7. Russ Mart (R)

8. Blake (can’t hit, doesn’t matter)

Look at all those Ls and Rs in reversing order! I should be a manager! Plus, as much as we all love Russ Mart the guy is just not a middle of the order bat. As a #3 hitter last year Martin had an (nerd alert) OPS+ of 72. That is no bueno my amigos.

In an unrelated note I was called by one of my temp’s bosses today and asked if I could pitch for their slow pitch softball team tomorrow night. Yes, yes I can. Does the fact that my temp is pretty hot have any bearing on my decision? Yes, yes it does.
