Peyton Manning’s currently (and slowly, might we add) recovering from neck surgery. Multiple neck surgeries (Manning has had two) are pretty debilitating especially when you’re an NFL quarterback behind a shoddy offensive line.
Well, with that injury, Manning’s career is in doubt. Dude’s already 36, and fans are already pining over Stanford QB Andrew Luck. Except, of course, Phil Simms, who said that Luck didn’t have an NFL arm. Manning was asked about it, and then proceeded to spurn Phil Simms like we all really want to every Sunday.
Here’s are the details from CBS’ NFL blog, Eye on Football:
You might recall that CBS/Showtime analyst Phil Simms said recently that Andrew Luck didn’t have an NFL arm. Naturally, reporters asked Manning about that, since the Colts, assuming they have the No. 1 draft pick next year, could take him as Manning’s eventual replacement.
“Yeah, I don’t talk to Phil. Phil doesn’t talk to me,” Manning said. “He did text me after that, saying ‘Hey, sorry to drag your name into this.’ I wrote back, ‘Phil I don’t know what you’re talking about.’ He said, ‘Well on my show, Inside the NFL, I made this statement.’ I said, ‘Phil, I hate to break it to you, but I don’t watch your show, along with a lot of other people that I don’t think watch that show.’”
What’s cool about this burn isn’t that Peyton Manning basically said Phil Simms’ show sucks. It’s that Peyton Manning burned Phil to Phil before talking to the media about it. Who does that? And also, how the hell did Phil Simms manage to finish a sentence when he fails to do that consistently every Sunday?
What’s funnier is that Phil Simms really didn’t talk too much about Peyton Manning on his Inside the NFL take. Sure, people asked Manning about it, but that doesn’t mean Manning was the topic of conversation on the show. Why did Simms even bother texting Manning? Did he think he could pull a fast one and try and be buddy-buddy with Peyton? These are important questions everyone wants to know.
What I want to know, though, was how that text conversation ended. Awkwardly, yeah, but did Phil Simms just stop replying or did he throw in some barbs back? We’re not sure. But we’re just going to assume Phil Simms got really sensitive and started crying.
One can dream, right?

That’s pretty classic.
I do wonder how good Luck will be in the NFL. I mean, the guy is a stud right now, one of the better players I’ve seen in years.
But he’s going to get picked by a putrid team. And I don’t care how good you are, that QB is going to suffer if they go somewhere like Miami or Denver.
The Colts are a different story if they’re healthy, but the Broncos? Yikes. They don’t have anyone to run or catch the ball there.
Speaking of Manning, maybe he pulls an Eli and refuses to go to one of those horrid houses. Then, just then, Luck might live up to the Hype.
Look forward to seeing him over the remainder of the season out here at Stanford, and seeing what he can do at the next level.
